Romantic Chopin – an immersive journey in the footsteps of the genius of Romanticism

Romantic Chopin is a unique exhibition dedicated to Frederic Chopin – one of the greatest composers of the Romantic era. It is the first exhibition of its kind to combine modern technology with classical music, creating a deeply moving artistic experience.

Based on the composer’s biography, work and correspondence, the exhibition takes visitors through eight thematic spaces – from his childhood in Żelazowa Wola, through the salons of Warsaw and his life turmoil in Vienna, to the artistic bohemia of Paris, where Chopin created his most important works. Visitors learn not only about the history of his life and work, but also about the world that surrounded him – George Sand, Ferenc Liszt, Adam Mickiewicz, Eugène Delacroix or Honoré de Balzac.

The exhibition does not leave the audience indifferent. It touches the soul, uncovers fears, reveals secrets and indicates the composer’s musical inspirations. Not only those from the world of great art, but also those stemming from folk art. ‘Romantic Chopin’ is not only music, but also the image of a man thrown into the whirlpool of history, feeling the consequences of the November Uprising, as well as the loss of his own homeland. Absorbing his surroundings and pouring his feelings into immortal songs. Loving and at the same time restrained, absorbed in his passion for composing and at the same time dabbling in Parisian salons.

The main part of the exhibition is an immersive space – a 45-minute show created on the basis of Chopin’s letters and works, in which image and sound guide the viewer through the emotional and artistic turning points in the composer’s life. Modern technology also allows for a deeper entry into his world – through an interactive musical sculpture, a virtual reality created by the Platige Image studio and a uniqueinteractive tree with Chopin’s mentors and inspirational figures, which, using artificial intelligence, enables personal contact with figures from Chopin’s closest circle.

The exhibition ends in a space dedicated to the Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition, which has popularised his work around the world for decades. The history of the competition, profiles of the winners and the event’s impact on the world classical music scene are shown here.
